A trav\u00e9s de este comentario ahondaremos The House on Carroll Street, uno de sus trabajos menos conocidos y un homenaje directo al estilo visual de Alfred Hitchcock.<\/p>\n<p>The House on Carroll Street (La Casa en la Calle Carroll) se ambienta en el a\u00f1o 1951, en los tiempos de la Caza de Brujas, cuando el senador republicano <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_McCarthy\">Joseph McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0impuls\u00f3 un periodo de paranoia en Estados Unidos en contra de cualquier ciudadano afiliado a movimientos subversivos o que pudiesen asociarse con acciones contra la patria. En este contexto, Emily Crane (Kelly McGillis) es acusada de algunas afiliaciones indebidas, provocando de paso su despido como empleada de la <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Life_(revista)\">revista Life<\/a>\u00a0y el seguimiento del FBI. Este hecho la obliga a tomar un trabajo como lectora de libros para una se\u00f1ora de edad (Jessica Tandy) que habita una mansi\u00f3n. En su descanso, Emily Crane es testigo de una extra\u00f1a conversaci\u00f3n en la casa de al lado, la que involucra a cient\u00edficos nazis y a Ray Salwen (Mandy Patinkin), el hombre que la acus\u00f3 p\u00fablicamente de ser antiamericana. Finalmente, la \u00fanica persona que ayuda a Crane es un agente del FBI interpretado por Jeff Daniels.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4901 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kelly-mcgillis-the-house-on-carroll-street-1988-pic-4.jpg?resize=840%2C492\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kelly-mcgillis-the-house-on-carroll-street-1988-pic-4.jpg?w=984&amp;ssl=1 984w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kelly-mcgillis-the-house-on-carroll-street-1988-pic-4.jpg?resize=300%2C176&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/kelly-mcgillis-the-house-on-carroll-street-1988-pic-4.jpg?resize=768%2C450&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/>Peter Yates muestra en su filme el ambiente de desconfianza que se respiraba en aquellos a\u00f1os en Estados Unidos, con hombres y mujeres que no pod\u00edan decir lo que realmente pensaban, a la vez que eran monitoreados por distintas agencias gubernamentales. Sin embargo, este frame narrativo es un interesante pretexto cuando lo que realmente le interesaba a Yates era realizar una obra que homenajeara el trabajo de Alfred Hitchcock. Los elementos visuales, di\u00e1logos y la historia van permanentemente en esta l\u00ednea. Tenemos a la rubia platinada (McGillis), el detective bonach\u00f3n (Daniels) y el malo de turno (Patinkin) en escenas que privilegian el uso de la mirada, la insinuaci\u00f3n, movimientos de c\u00e1mara que se sustentan en el sonido en torno a lo que se ve y lo que no est\u00e1 en el encuadre. En el filme de Peter Yates abunda el suspenso junto con una cuidada puesta en escena en torno a los a\u00f1os 50. Este homenaje al cine de Hitchcock quiz\u00e1 no es tan directo como en las pel\u00edculas de Brian De Palma, pero consigue su objetivo en varios momentos, siendo uno de los m\u00e1s logrados la escena de persecuci\u00f3n en una librer\u00eda y en un teatro, adem\u00e1s del final del filme en el techo del mencionado Gran Central Terminal.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4903\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/81g8ahmpu1l-_sy445_-214x300.jpg?resize=199%2C279\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/81g8ahmpu1l-_sy445_.jpg?resize=214%2C300&amp;ssl=1 214w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/81g8ahmpu1l-_sy445_.jpg?w=317&amp;ssl=1 317w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>Kelly McGillis fue uno de los \u00edconos sexuales de los a\u00f1os 80` gracias a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xa_z57UatDY\">Top Gun<\/a>, si bien su carrera nunca experiment\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n que merec\u00eda como int\u00e9rprete salvo en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DY3XnCyKAEU\">Testigo en Peligro<\/a>\u00a0de Peter Weir y en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EI7SG2eYUpU\">Acusados<\/a>\u00a0de Jonathan Kaplan. En The House on Carroll Street tenemos un buen ejemplo de sus capacidades interpretativas, destacando la expresividad de sus ojos, si bien su personaje se presenta m\u00e1s como un enigma. Esto porque no sabemos realmente cu\u00e1les son sus motivaciones al tratar de desentra\u00f1ar la conspiraci\u00f3n gubernamental que la pone constantemente en riesgo.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Yates realiz\u00f3 una obra muy interesante en el subtexto argumental y que a nivel visual conduce al espectador hacia la intriga. Estamos ante una pel\u00edcula que lamentablemente es poco conocida y que merece nuevas revisiones y an\u00e1lisis. Un punto interesante es que fue producida por <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orion_Pictures\">Orion Pictures<\/a>, estudio cinematogr\u00e1fico que bajo su alero dio vida a filmes emblem\u00e1ticos de los a\u00f1os 80, entre ellos, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iSfh0pIAG38&amp;t=18s\">Excalibur<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.espectadorerrante.com\/index.php\/2018\/12\/09\/robocop-robot-se-convirtio-mesias\/\">Robocop<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W6Mm8Sbe__o&amp;t=4s\">El Silencio de los Inocentes<\/a>\u00a0y gran parte de la filmograf\u00eda de Woody Allen.
